Visiting Sydney and/or NSW Australia?
There are some great places to kitesurf in NSW, Australia.
Here is some helpful information:
- Kitesurfing Weather Information.
- NSW Kitesurfing Locations - which give you information about each location on Google Maps. See the descriptions for safety information as well as required wind direction.
- Just a quick reminder that Kitesurfing is not permitted at any time in Sydney Harbour, Randwick or Wavely council beaches (including Bondi and Maroubra). i.e. It’s illegal to kite there even after or before the flags are up. There are plenty of better locations to kite at.
- Important: Please take a moment to have a look at the NSW Safety regulations regarding sharing the beaches with swimmers, surfers and other vessels.
- Please show respect for the local rules & life-guards (For example, for safety reasons kiting is not permitted at some of Sydney's popular surf beaches (e.g. Bondi). This protects kiters from bad launch and landing areas, and also protects swimmers, surfers, sunbathers & children from harm. But don't worry there are plenty great places where you can go - where there will be other people kiting and where it's safer).
- Please respect other people on the beaches or in the sea (swimmers, surfers, windsurfers, kayakers, sailers etc.) and also those in the air (paragliders and hang-gliders). We want to ensure that we don't create a bad name for kiting, and that we don't want to endanger the public. Please be especially careful of surfers who duck dive through the back of the wave, and may suddenly appear in front of kiters.
- Please have a healthy respect for the sea, the weather, the wind, ocean swells, rips, currents and the waves. Be on the lookout for changes in the weather. Be safe and have fun.
- Connecting with other kitesurfers - will give you more information about where and what time to get your kite out, as well as being fun and safer.
- Here's an excellent article about kiting on crowded beaches.
- Have a read of the NSW Kiting Code of Conduct and Safety pages.
Have fun and be safe!
